About decision tables

Decision Table Editor is a web application for the maintenance of the decision tables used for mortality coding.

The decision tables are a tool which allow the consistent and harmonized application of the international rules for the selection of the underlying cause of death according the provisions of the International Classification of Diseases and Related Problems (ICD-10), published and revised by the World Health Organization (WHO). They are used both by the Iris automated coding system and in manual coding.

Since 2011, these tables have been maintained by the Iris institute according to the annual WHO official updates of the ICD-10.

The current decision tables derive from those developed by the NCHS (US National Center for Health Statistics) for the selection of the underlying cause of death used by the ACME system.
